There are many approaches on how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. All these methods have different levels of difficulties, for speedcubers or beginners, even for solving the cube blindfolded. People usually get stuck solving the cube after completing the first face, after that they need some help. In the following article I’m going to show you the easiest way to solve the cube using the beginner’s method.

The method presented here divides the cube into layers and you can solve each layer applying a given algorithm not messing up the pieces already in place. You can find a separate page for each one of the seven stages if the description on this page needs further explanation and examples.

  1. Understanding  the basis:

To get started, I recommend reading up on basic cubing vocabulary and learning the Rubik’s Cube notation, which explains what the letters in the algorithms mean:

F stands for forward, R stands for right, U stands for up, L stands for left, and D stands for down.

  1. The Step-by-Step Solution 
  • White cross

Let’s start with the white person. Make a white cross first, taking attention to the colour of the side centrepieces. You can attempt to do this task without first reading the instructions.

Use this stage to gain a feel for the puzzle and see how far you can get without assistance. Because there are no solved components to be aware of, this stage is rather simple. Just keep practising and don’t give up. Try to reposition the white edges without interfering with the ones that have previously been corrected.

With animated algorithms, you can receive some help forming a white cross.

  • White edging

To finish the first face, we must place the white corner pieces in this stage. If you are particularly determined and have completed the white cross without assistance, you can attempt this one as well. If you don’t want to wait, I’ll give you a hint. Twist the bottom layer such that one of the white corners is just beneath the location on the top layer where it belongs. Now, choose one of the three algorithms based on the piece’s orientation, or which way the white sticker is facing. If the white corner piece is where it should be but is turned the wrong way up, you must first pop it out.

  • The second layer

The technique had been very straightforward up to this point, but we will now have to rely on algorithms. Let’s forget about the completed white face and concentrate on the unresolved side of the cube.

The first two layers are finished in this step (F2L). This stage requires the employment of two symmetric algorithms. The algorithms are known as the Right and Left algorithms. These algorithms move the Up-Front edge piece from the top layer to the middle layer without interfering with the white face that has been solved.

Turn the top layer until one of the edge pieces is lined up, if none of the pieces in the top layer are already lined up.

  • Yellow top cross 

Make a yellow cross on the top of the cube to begin solving the final layer. It doesn’t matter if the pieces aren’t in their ultimate positions; we don’t have to worry about the side colours.

On the top, there are three different patterns. To transition from one state to the next, use the following algorithm:

FRUR’U’F’

You must apply the algorithm three times when you see a dot. If you have a yellow “L” form, only do it twice while holding the cube in your hands as shown below.

In the case of a horizontal line, the permutation only needs to be done once.

  • Placement of yellow corners

The last layer’s corners are the only ones that haven’t been solved. Don’t worry about the orientation in this phase because we need to bring them to the appropriate place first.

Find a piece that is already in the correct location, transfer it to the right-front-top corner, and then use the procedure below to switch (cycle) the three incorrect pieces shown on the image.

URU’L’UR’U’L

To accomplish an inverted rotation of the components, repeat the process twice. If none of the yellow corners are in the correct location, run the algorithm once again to generate a good piece. 

  • Yellow Corners in the Orient

All of the pieces are in their proper positions; all that remains is to align the yellow corners to complete the puzzle.

The corners have been placed in their final location, but they still need to be oriented into a cube.

Hold the cube in your hand with an unsolved corner on the front-right-top corner, then repeat the following method twice or four times until that exact piece is properly oriented:

R’D’RD

Turn the top layer only to transfer another unresolved yellow piece to the cube’s front-right-top corner and repeat the R’ D’ R D process until the piece is complete. Between the algorithms, be cautious not to change the two bottom layers, and never rotate the entire cube!
